Play therapy and play-based interventions may help children experiencing:
Anxiety, excessive worry, or separation difficulties
Frequent tantrums, emotional outbursts, or difficulty managing anger
Aggressive or challenging behaviors at home or school
Trauma, abuse, neglect, or other adverse childhood experiences
Grief, loss, divorce, or significant family changes
Difficulty expressing feelings or communicating needs
Low self-esteem, social difficulties, or withdrawal
Behavioral changes following stressful experiences
What happens during play therapy?
Depending on the child's developmental needs and the therapist's training, sessions may incorporate therapeutic toys, games, art, storytelling, imaginative play, and other creative activities.
These approaches help children communicate emotions, practice new skills, and work toward individualized treatment goals.
Our therapists work collaboratively with parents and caregivers to support progress beyond the therapy session.
Play therapy and play-based services are available for children ages 3–12 in Beckley, WV. The specific treatment approach is determined by the clinician's qualifications and each child's individual needs.
